Özet
Many changes to the status of women from all backgrounds occurred during the late Ottoman era. Before this period, women were largely excluded from the public sphere and professional life. However, with the developments of the late Ottoman period, they began to participate in these areas. Although uncommon, photography was one of the professions pursued by women. This study explores how and why photography emerged as a profession for Ottoman women during this transformative period and examines its role in enhancing their visibility in the public sphere. It also investigates the impact of this phenomenon on the early years of the Turkish Republic.
