Özet

Stormwater management presents a critical challenge for urban areas across the globe, emphasized by the growing threats of climate change and rising sea levels. Traditional approaches to handling stormwater have been demonstrated to be both ineffective and environmentally harmful, particularly in the most vulnerable components of cities, such as ecological-environmental systems, settlements, and infrastructure and service systems. In response to this challenge, sustainable urban design (SUD) has emerged in urban planning and design, seeking to establish sustainable and livable cities. An integral aspect of SUD is its capacity to address stormwater management issues. Sustainable urban design principles offer various facets of urban design. When extended to stormwater management, they promote innovative solutions that suit natural hydrological processes, allowing for the slowing, infiltration, and reuse of stormwater. This chapter focuses on developing a key performance indicator framework (KPIF) with a comprehensive evaluation of international examples with population and geographic differences. The framework is used as an essential tool for assessing the effectiveness of SUD interventions. In this study, we assess the Key performance indicators (KPIs) of five international case studies. Through the assessment of these KPIs the chapter shows the performance indicators of each parameter to be considered in Bursa city flood mitigation’s plan. Bursa is a city in Turkey with a high proportion of impervious surfaces like roads and buildings. Bursa frequently encounters substantial rainfall, particularly during the winter months, resulting in potential flooding and other stormwater-related challenges. Consequently, this analysis enables the identification of data gaps in Bursa, providing valuable insights that can aid local authorities. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
