Özet
Tissue engineering usually contains the use of cells put on tissue scaffolds in the development of new living tissue for a medicinal reason, although it is not restricted to cell and tissue scaffold applications. It is the process of developing tissues in the body under laboratory conditions and applying them in patients. Today, tissue engineering plays a little part in patient care. Patients have had additional bladders, tiny arteries, skin grafts, cartilage, and even a whole trachea transplanted, but the treatments are still experimental and expensive. This chapter will discuss the development of novel polymeric materials for scaffolds, such as bone, cartilage, tendon, skin, vascular graft and heart valve in biomedical applications. The porous three-dimensional scaffold is critical in the cellular functions; for tissue engineering, new improvements in efficient scaffold production technologies are detailed. Moreover, the fabrication processes of polymer scaffolds is also presented. Eventually, the future problems of efficiently fabricating effective polymeric biomaterials for tissue regeneration are approached. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd.
