THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HIGH TECHNOLOGY EXPORTS AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: CASE OF TURKEY

Given the growing international trade volume in the globalizing world economy, technological development will have considerable influence in the international trade and economic growth of countries. In this respect, researches on the impact of technological developments in countries on technological product export and the extent of technological product export contributing to the countries' economic growth become important. This study will first try to reveal the impact of technological product trade by technological developments emerged in Turkey. Furthermore, the main objective of this study is to contribute by uncovering which sectors are more identifiable in economic growth of Turkey in terms of high-technology. Thus, high technology sectors contributing most to economic growth of Turkey will be determined and in order to raise the welfare level of Turkey more quickly in the detected sectors and increase the technological product trade, specialization aims will be unveiled. According to results of the analyzes, specialization of exports on chemical industry, electrical machinery and apparatus industry, armament industry, electronics and communications industry and scientific instruments industry are determined as high-tech sectors which will further increase the level of economic growth in Turkey.
