Adaptation, Validity, and Reliability Study of the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Stigma Scale into Turkish
(Turkiye Sinir Ve Ruh Sagligi Dernegi, 2025) Civgin, Umut
Objectives: The aim of the study is to adapt the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Stigma Scale to Turkish and to determine its psychometric properties. This scale, which can be used for anyone showing generalized anxiety symptoms, has two sub-scale consisting of 9 statements (personal stigma and perceived stigma). Method: After the translation, 659 participants were included in the study via convenience sampling. The demographic information form, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Stigma Scale, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 were presented to the participants as a questionnaire set. Results: Cronbach's alpha coefficient, test-retest and item total correlation findings were obtained for reliability. Cronbach's alpha values of the scale were 0.78 for the personal stigma sub-scale and 0.87 for the perceived stigma sub-scale. In the analyses conducted for test-retest reliability, the findings showed that the Spearman correlation coefficients were 0.70 for the personal stigma sub-scale and 0.79 for the perceived stigma subscale. The results indicated that the scale possesses reliability. Confirmatory factor analysis was applied for validity. Similar to the original scale, it was observed that the factor loadings were clustered in two sub-dimensions, but it was decided to remove 2 items from the scale, making it a form consisting of 18 items in total. Conclusion: As a result, the findings obtained show that the scale has reliable and valid psychometric properties. The scale can be used in both research and clinical applications to measure stigma specifically for generalized anxiety symptoms.

An Investigation into Psychological Aspects of Patients Diagnosed with Breast Cancer: A Review Study of Postgraduate Theses Prepared in Turkey
(Galenos Publ House, 2025) Civgin, Umut
A significant number of scientific data concerning breast cancer is generated in Turkey. The present research reviewed postgraduate theses examining the psychological evaluation of breast cancer patients conducted in Turkey. The objective of the review study was to ascertain the focal topics of the theses, identify commonly examined psychological variables, determine research gaps, compare the frequency of experimental and intervention studies with other kinds of research, and provide recommendations for literature. A retrospective descriptive study was designed by performing a search on the Y & Ouml;K Thesis Center website with the keywords breast cancer and psychology (in Turkish and English) between 2000 and 2024. The criteria for inclusion in the review study required that the dissertation be a master's or doctoral thesis in psychology, involve breast cancer patients as participants, focus on patients who are not in remission, and be available as open access. Twenty-seven postgraduate theses were selected. Of the theses 88.9% were classified as master's theses, while 11.1% were categorized as doctoral theses. Although the variables included in the these studies were numerous, some were investigated more often. Post-traumatic growth was evaluated by 12 theses, perceived social support by 6, depression-anxiety-stress by 15, and coping by 8. more frequently observed factors include metacognition, ruminative thinking, schemas, body perception/image, and self-esteem. Most of the studies were relational and non-interventional. Only three studies used psychological intervention. It is suggested that thesis studies should include more participant characteristics, control for them in analyses, and be more experimental and effectiveness focused.

Does time perspective affect the association between childhood traumas and post-traumatic growth?
(Springer, 2025) Gokkaya, Fuesun; Yurdalan, Fatih; Civgin, Umut
Time perspective is a concept that elucidates the manner in which individuals assess the present, past, and future. In the relevant literature, trauma and trauma-related issues have been matched to time perspective. In particular, there are conflicting findings regarding post-traumatic growth. The objective of the research is to investigate the mediator role of time perspective in the relationship between childhood traumas and post-traumatic growth. Based on this, it is predicted that early traumas and post-traumatic growth will be related to time perspective and proposed relationship will have important consequences for literature and clinicians. For this purpose, 676 participants were included, and the survey set was presented to the participants. Pearson correlation and mediation were performed. Results showed that there is a only significant relationship between emotional neglect and post-traumatic growth, while there is no relationship between the other sub-dimensions of childhood traumas and post-traumatic growth. As a result of the mediation analysis conducted, it was seen that time perspectives played a mediator role between emotional neglect and post-traumatic growth. The results obtained were discussed within the framework of the related literature and suggestions for future studies were presented.
